4040 XE vs Masuter - The Ultimate Breakdown

Hardware:
  1. XE has micro adjustments for the VWheels as they wear you'll need to tighten them on both machines, but the XE makes it easier to make any adjustments.
  2. The XE has a more universal mount for optional larger spindles, the Masuter is limited to the 52mm 60w spindle, 58mm 300w spindle, and  Square Laser modules. In order to use a larger spindle on the Masuter one would have to replace the whole z axis to fit anything over 58mm diameter.     **The Makita router is 65mm & the DeWalt 611 is 69mm.
  3. XE uses metal brackets, while the Masuter uses bakelite brackets. ** Bakelite is a chemically infuse plastic material that has a similar appearance to black acrylic.
Electronics:
  1. The XE uses NEMA23 and the Masuter uses the smaller NEMA17 steppers.
  2. XE includes a built in offline controller, the Masuter needs another accessory to run offline.
  3. The XE and Masuter use different controller boards, each with their own pros and cons. While these differences make no real difference for most users, tinkerers who wish to highly modify their machine might prefer one over the other.
